BC Lightning Spring 2023 Tryouts!

Spring 2023 Tryouts are complete!!! We may still have space in some of our divisions,  please CONTACT US if you have any questions or would like to enquire about potential open roster spots.

Do you want to be part of one of the best spring hockey development programs in the Lower Mainland?

Our tryout process consists of two tryout skates for each age group. It is best that players attend both skates so our evaluators can get more than one opportunity to evaluate your player. The more our coaches and evaluators see a player, the better the evaluation will be. Having said that, players that are only able to attend one of the tryout skates will still have the same opportunity to be selected for one of our teams, however the evaluation will be based on only the one tryout. Tryout skates will have a skill based component as well as game (scrimmage) component. There will be a minimum of three off-ice evaluators at each tryout skate as well as on ice coaches who will also be evaluating players.  Confirmed roster spots will begin to be offered after the first tryout date to some players. We hope to have our Spring rosters substantially completed by December 31, 2022.  The rostering process does take time, so please be patient as we work through the process, we will advise all tryout participants whether they have made a BCL team or not.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. When does the season start and end? March 27 to June 4, 2023
  2. We are only interested in trying out for the Elite team, are there separate Elite tryouts? No, our tryouts are "open", our evaluators will determine which team a player will be the best fit on within our program.
  3. What will the season cost? Typical fees are approximately $2500 for Elite/AAA Teams, $2000 for AA teams. Costs are determined at a later date once ice contracts are confirmed and tournaments are selected.
  4. Where are practices held? We have ice contracts at several arenas, including Langley Twin Rinks, Langley Sportsplex, NHTC Langley, Planet Ice Delta, and Pit Meadows Arena. The majority of ice is at Langley Twin Rinks.
  5. What's included in the Spring fees? All ice times, professional paid coaches, uniforms (returning players will receive a credit if their uniform still fits) and apparel, three tournaments, insurance. There are no additional costs unless the team decides to do something extra.
  6. I am only able to attend one tryout skate, is this OK? Yes, however it is best that players attend both skates so our evaluators can get more than one opportunity to evaluate your player. The more our coaches and evaluators see a player, the better the evaluation will be. Having said that, players that are only able to attend one of the tryout skates will still have the same opportunity to be selected for one of our teams, however the evaluation will be based on only the one tryout.
  7. If my player made an Elite/AAA BCL roster last spring is he/she guaranteed a spot on that roster for this coming spring? No, team placement for each player is yet to be determined and will be based on a current tryout evaluation. We will be offering guaranteed roster spots to some core returning players on our Elite teams based on our familiarity of those players.
  8. If my player made a AA roster last spring will he/she have an opportunity to make an Elite/AAA roster this spring? Yes, however we will need to have the opportunity to evaluate the player at our tryouts.
